Last week, I had the privilege of joining a captivating panel discussion at the Midwest First Year Experience Conference. The focus? Demystifying how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming student learning and engagement.
Let me tell you about this positive and engaging experience.
Diverse Perspectives on AI:
Our dynamic panel brought together a wealth of experience:
Dr. David O'Neill: English/Writing Faculty with a unique perspective on AI's impact on writing skills and how faculty can embrace AI.
Dr. Meg Hunter: Instructional Designer & Strategist, providing insights on leveraging AI for effective learning experiences.
Dr. Roy Magnuson: Faculty Fellow focused on the future of AI, along with expertise in Composition, XR Development, and Music Composition.
My Focus: Prioritizing AI in Higher Education in an ethical, student-centered, and prioritizing the human experience.
As the opening speaker, I explored several key points:
The critical role of ethical considerations in AI implementation.
Practical use cases for AI in various academic settings.
Empowering Higher Education leaders to initiate AI integration.
Maintaining the human element at the heart of AI-powered education.
Engaging Discussion and Resources:
Each panelist had approximately 10 minutes to present their viewpoints, followed by a dynamic Q&A session led by our moderators. I kicked off the discussions at minute 1:45, but I highly recommend watching the entire session to fully appreciate the depth and breadth of the discourse.
