We have had an energizing and busy month honoring Black History Month at AGMU. From a common read (Halsey Street by Naima Coster) panel discussion, social media campaigns featuring our staff and faculty, and great conversations with our students and staff. As a Hispanic-Serving-Institution (HSI), we are especially committed to our shared Student Affairs guiding principle of equity & inclusion.
In our February Student Affairs Town Hall, we shared the following information:
“Although we certainly don’t need to be prompted by an awareness holiday to embrace and honor Black history, this month is an opportunity to reconcile with the past, pave the way for a more just future, and celebrate all the amazing figures who have taken their place in Black History.”
Ways to honor Black History Month:
Support Black-Owned Businesses
Learn about noteworthy Black figures and their contributions
Donate to charities that support anti-racism, equity and inclusion
Read, and share books by Black Authors
Participate in local & online events
