Honoring Women's History Month

March marks the beginning of Women’s History Month, a time to honor women past and present for their contributions to society.

Last fall, I wrote a blog about the power of women supporting women and had a HUGE reaction from my personal and professional networks. Here is an exerpt from that blog:

Audre Lorde, an influential writer and activist, aptly articulated this sentiment when she said, "I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own." This powerful quote underscores the interconnectedness of women's struggles and highlights that true freedom and empowerment are collective endeavors. Supporting one another fosters a sense of unity and solidarity among women. This unity extends beyond the workplace and contributes to building a broader community where women can collaborate, advocate for change, and share experiences and resources. This cooperative spirit not only benefits individual women but also strengthens the overall movement for gender equality. It's a testament to the notion that, as the saying goes, "We rise by lifting others." In the process of supporting and empowering one another, women collectively challenge stereotypes and strive for a more equitable world where every woman can reach her full potential, free from the constraints of prejudice and bias.

Who has inspired you? What women have poured into you in your personal and professional life? Who have you coached, mentored, and sponsored?

I want to say a special thank you to our all-female identifying staff at Glass Half Full Consulting who show up for each other every day- Sandra, Melissa, and Claire.

As we head into a month celebrating women's history, here are some of my favorite quotes about the power, tenacity, and impact of women:

“Well-behaved women never make history.” — Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, Pulitzer Prize winning historian (often mis-attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt)

"I just love bossy women. I could be around them all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term at all. It means somebody’s passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn’t mind leading." — Amy Poehler

"Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women." — Maya Angelou

"Women and girls can do whatever they want. There is no limit to what we as women can accomplish." — Michelle Obama

"I hate to hear you talk about all women as if they were fine ladies instead of rational creatures. None of us want to be in calm waters all our lives." — Jane Austen

"The kindest words/my father said to me/women like you/drown oceans." ― Rupi Kaur

“Where there is a woman there is magic." — Ntozake Shange
