As did so many of you, I watched the Inauguration this week in a state of wonder and delight. After such a terrifying attack on our Capital last week and the many years of political and social divisiveness we have experienced, I was ready for a new year and new approaches to solving our nation's most pressing issues.
As I watched Kamala Harris being sworn in, I had a visceral reaction realizing that I had never seen a woman or a person of color sworn in as the Vice President before. I was overtaken with emotion thinking of how much I wanted this for myself and for all women. Then my thoughts turned to the many young girls AND boys watching this moment. They will never really know a time when a women has not held that seat from now on. Hopefully in the near future, they will also witness a woman being sworn in as President of the United States. I was struck deeply by this experience and by the Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman, and spent the rest of the day in a sort of happy and euphoric state!
I will continue to bask in this light and send every imaginable good vibe to our new President and Vice President. They have big hard work ahead of them.
It is indeed an amazing time to be alive.
If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to watch "The Hill We Climb" by Amanda Gorman. It speaks to this unique moment in time so perfectly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz4YuEvJ3y4
