The culprit? The very users Tay was supposed to learn from. Many people bombarded it with offensive messages, and Tay, lacking the ability to discern good from bad, absorbed these biases and started reflecting them in its own tweets. Needless to say, Microsoft had to take Tay offline shortly after.
