My 2022 Joy List

Writer's picture: Claire BradyClaire Brady

Often when I present at conferences, I start by presenting my "Joy List". This is usually a collections of pictures that share with the audience who I am, what is important to me, and what brings me joy (family, travel, adventures, etc...)

2022 was another fascinating year- both personally and professionally. So in the spirit of sharing my joys, I present to you, my 2022 Joy List (in no particular order!)

Traveling again

After two long years, we were able to start traveling again! This year, we had some much-needed beach time (Sarasota, St. Augustine, Indian Shores), work travel to Baltimore, Dallas, & San Diego and a great family week in Maine this summer visiting Ben's family. I'm excited to see what travel adventures lie ahead for us in 2023!

An appreciation for research and science

We are all vaccinated and boosted which gives us more confidence to travel and get out into the world. What a relief it is have an added layer of protection. My Dad is in year 6 of fighting cancer. I am thankful for the scientists and doctors who are helping him thrive. My dad is resilient, loving, brilliant, and adores his grandchildren. I'm so thankful that he has the medical care needed to fight his cancer and have a good quality of life.

Broadway in Orlando

We invested in season tickets to the Broadway series at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts this year. We have loved this dedicated time to enjoy the arts and sneak in a date night. I especially loved introducing our favorite tiny humans to Broadway. My 6 year old niece LOVED Frozen and our 11 year old is still singing songs from Cats the Musical, 6 months later. In October, we shared Hamilton with three generations of our family (from 11 to 77). We loved it and it was a special memory for our family to enjoy together.

Decorating for the holidays

This year, we went ALL out for Halloween and Christmas! Ben adores Halloween and was thrilled to add an 8 foot skeleton to our yard this year. The skeleton joined our light up witches, paper mache cauldron, giant pumpkin, and various other skeletons, tombstones, and lights. Our house was even a neighbohood destination for family pictures. For Christmas, we toned it down a bit but still have the most festive house on the block!

Giving back

My Mom has always inspired me to give back whenever and wherever I can. I am honored to work with so many volunteers in community and professional organizations that are making a difference in the world. From serving on the NPR Community Advisory Board, to volunteering in the community, to serving on NASPA Boards/Institutes, to 100 Women Strong, my tank is full and I am appreciative of the opportunity to give back.

Important work and great colleagues

We accomplished so much this past year in Student Affairs. I am honored to lead this group of talented #SAPROS. I can't express how proud I am of our team; they are tenacious, hard-working, kind, and smart. They are accomplishing great things for our students and our communities and I honored to work alongside them.

... and finally, the Brady-Philbrook clan & extended family

I feel love, support, and kindess every day from my boys (Ben & Fox), from my immediate family (Mom, Dad, Paul, Ella, & Jake), my BFF (Jenni) and from my chosen family (you know who you are people!!) I'm inspired by them and want to do right by them.

I am sure that many new joys await in 2023.
